All Thumbs

Keeping the technical specs and concept in mind, I quickly rough out as many layouts and ideas as I can. The trick is not to worry about how bad these thumbnails may look – just keep going, small and fast.

After I have about 10-20 unique thumbnails, I look over them, noting which compositions seem to work best, and which ideas are truest to the concept. I then choose two or three to take to the next stage.
